Monday, June 1st
Happy Monday! We've got a great week ahead of us. Some of you are returning to school, and some of you are staying home. But the biggest news of the week? Friday is Susie's birthday! Happy birthday to Susie!
A Closer Look at Monday:
Questions or just want to connect? Ms. Ghoury's here for you every Monday! Email to set up a call! [email protected]
Wellbeing & Connection:
Here's the instructions for Week Eight of your journal activity! First, open your workbook and set up your page. The title can be "Journal". Next, check in with yourself. How are you feeling today? Draw the emoji that matches your mood, then try the relaxation video to your right. Do this exercise every day, as often as you like-no writing necessary! Notice how you felt before you did the exercise, and how you felt afterwards. Did it help? Feel free to write a reflection. |
|
Now choose one section of the page to complete: Self-Care Tip, Think About It, Character Trait of the Day, or you can choose to draw a picture of someone being curious.
Four, get to it!
We'll ask you to do one section a day, so by the end of the week you'll have four journal entries and will have completed each section. If you miss one or all, or just want to talk about your answers with your parents that's totally okay. Do what works for you! 😊

Spelling.
Monday Word Sort. Every Monday you will have a new word list emailed to you by Ms. Gebert. You will sort your words into different categories just like we did in class every week. Look for patterns and similar sounds when sorting.
For example, if your words contained the vowel sounds of short a, short e and short I, you would sort them into those categories. Don’t forget to add your headings for each category. You can record your sort chart in your notebook.

Writing:
It's time to bring some sunshine to seniors in isolation. You can write this letter in your notebook and take a picture of it, or you may type it out on a computer. Just like the Letter Logs we did at school, you do not need to set up the page with your name, date and title. Simply start your letter with a greeting like Dear friend, or whatever you like. Please follow the letter writing structure we practiced in class. Here’s an example of what your letter should include this week: Dear friend, (Greet them and wish them well.) Transition. (Share three special things about your family. For each special thing give details or an explanation to really help them connect to your family. Between each idea use a transition.) Transition to the conclusion. (Finish the letter by wishing them well.) Sincerely, (Your first name, Grade 3) Send to: [email protected] (this is a separate email that I've set up specifically for these letters). You may also choose to share your letter on MyBlueprint, but please make sure you send it to the above email address as well. Thank you! Each week these virtual notes will be delivered to seniors at The Langley Lodge, Avalon Gardens, Langley Seniors Village, and Langley Gardens. |
Math:
Great job on your Community Arrays last week! Here's just a few to share. They were all great!

Check out Brody's! He decided to take us to the beach, and he did a fantastic job. Thanks for sharing, Brody!
Now for today's lesson!
It's time to step things up with Multiplication! This week we're practicing Multi-Digit Multiplication. Are you ready? To your right are the strategies we will be learning the next couple of weeks. We will start with the Standard Algorithm method. This is the method most of your parents probably learned in school. Once you've tried all of them, it's up to you to decide which one you like the best. Have fun and keep an open mind! Time for today's lesson. First, please watch the video below. You'll need to know how to multiply by multiples of 10 for some of this week's strategies so let's get it out of the way. |
|
Make sense? Take a few minutes to practice. Can you answer these questions on your whiteboard? Check your answers with a calculator.
3 x 10=
5 x 50=
6 x 40=
If you've got it then you're ready to move on. You may want to come back to this video later in the week to refresh your memory. That is totally okay.
Now watch and learn how to multiply multi-digit numbers using the Standard Algorithm. Once you've watched the video, try out some problems yourself.
