Monday, April 20th
Happy Monday! We've got another week of learning planned for you, but please remember to only do what you can at this time.
PS-Did you see the video message Ms. Gebert made for you? If not, check it out now! |
We thought Jackson's smiling face was a great way to start out the week. He sent us this picture showing us a math challenge he did last week. We were so impressed to see he did his times tables all the way up to ten! Pretty cool!

A Closer Look at Monday:
Questions or just want to connect? Ms. Ghoury's here for you every Monday! Email to set up a call! [email protected]
Wellbeing & Connection:
Here's the instructions for Week Two of your journal activity! First, open your workbook and set up your page. The title can be "Journal". Next, check in with yourself. How are you feeling today? Draw the emoji that matches your mood, then try the Bumble Bee Breaths. They're are an exercise you can do every day, as often as you like-no writing necessary! Notice how you felt before you did the Bumble Bee Breaths, and how you felt afterwards. Did they help? |
|
Third, choose one section of the page to complete: Self-Care Tip (write a reflection on how you feel after you move your body), Think About It, Character Trait of the Day, or you can choose to draw a picture of someone being honest.
Four, get to it!
We'll ask you to do one section a day, so by the end of the week you'll have five journal entries and will have completed each section. If you miss one or all, or just want to talk about your answers with your parents that's totally okay. Do what works for you! 😊

Spelling.
Monday Word Sort. Every Monday you will have a new word list emailed to you by Ms. Gebert. You will sort your words into different categories just like we did in class every week. Look for patterns and similar sounds when sorting.
For example, if your words contained the vowel sounds of short a, short e and short I, you would sort them into those categories. Don’t forget to add your headings for each category. You can record your sort chart in your notebook.

Writing:
Each week we'll ask you to write a letter to a senior in isolation. You can write this letter in your notebook and take a picture of it, or you could type it out on a computer. Just like the Letter Logs we did at school, you do not need to set up the page with your name, date and title. Simply start your letter with a greeting like Dear friend, or whatever you like.
Thanks to those of you that shared your letter's last week. The seniors were absolutely thrilled and are looking forward to this week's delivery.
For this week's letter please follow the letter writing structure we practiced in class. Here’s an example of what your letter should include:
Dear friend,
(Greet them and wish them well) (Share about how you’re having fun at home- try to give three details) (Now share about the first thing you can't wait to do when we can leave our homes again) (Finish the letter by wishing them well)
Sincerely,
(Your first name, Grade 3)
Send to: [email protected] (this is a separate email that I've set up specifically for these letters)
Each week these virtual notes will be delivered to seniors at The Langley Lodge, Avalon Gardens, Langley Seniors Village, and Langley Gardens.

Math:
We'll be signing up for Mathletics soon, but we're getting used to things one step at a time. You guys did great with the Kahoot last week so let's do another one. This time it's on fractions! Answer these Kahoot questions and have your workbook or whiteboard ready in case you want to work out the answer on the page. Don't worry if you don't get all the answers, but I turned off the clock so you can take your time and think it through. Do your best and have fun!
If you're using your workbook then please title the page "Fraction Kahoot".

Playful Possibilities:
Have you noticed painted rocks around your neighbourhood? We've been seeing them everywhere! It's been so fun hunting for these rocks we thought we'd try making them ourselves! Want to join us? First listen to the story! Click on the video below to hear Cairo and I share the story of the Rock Monsters. Then go find a few rocks and wash them off. Decide what kind of rock monster you'd like to create, grab some paint and a brush, set up a painting station (maybe outside) and get started! Check out the pictures below the video to see the Rock Monsters in my neighbourhood and Cairo creating his own! We can't wait to see how yours turn out!
